Secure Skies: Los Cabos’ Safest Airlines

Heading to Los Cabos for a sunny vacation? But hey, which airline should you choose?

When planning your trip to Los Cabos, the first thing to think about is your budget. This beach getaway is all about luxury and we know luxury doesn’t come cheap, no matter where you’re headed.

Several U.S. airlines fly to Los Cabos from major airports across the mainland. So, should you pick the one with the lowest price or the best safety rating?

Sure, air travel is generally super safe, but isn’t it nice to have that extra assurance that your airline is one of the safest in the world?

Well, guess what? Four major airlines with direct flights to Los Cabos (SJD) got a thumbs-up in AirlineRatings’ annual report of the safest airlines globally.

And here’s the cherry on top – Cabo is known to be a safe destination too. So, relax. You’re in good hands both up in the air and on solid ground.

United Airlines

United Airlines has made it into the top 25 in the industry and is a big hit with travelers all over the United States.

Whether you’re located on the west coast, the east coast, or somewhere in between major cities, United offers direct flights to Baja’s ultimate destination of Los Cabos.

In terms of performance, United just broke a record with an outstanding 99.7% completion rate for flights in December 2023.

Now that we’re deep into the season, they continue providing top-notch service to Los Cabos year round. What are you waiting for?

Air Canada

Landing just a spot above United in safety rankings, Air Canada stands out as the safer choice for Canadians looking to swap winter snow for winter sun.

Going head-to-head with WestJet as Canada’s primary airline, Air Canada  offers nonstop flights to Los Cabos (SJD) from Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver.

If you’re a Canadian traveler, other flight options include Flair Airlines and Sunwing Airlines, although they didn’t make the cut in the top 25.

American Airlines

Coming in at 22nd place on AirlineRatings’ recent list is American Airlines.

Just nudging ahead of its rival, United, American is a slightly better choice if you want a hassle-free trip to southern Baja. Lots of folks opt for American Airlines when heading to Los Cabos.

Both American and United are major players when it comes to airline connectivity in the US, so getting to Los Cabos isn’t a problem, especially with direct flights from Dallas (DFW), Los Angeles (LAX), and Chicago (ORD), just to name a few.

Alaska Airlines

To be fair, AirlineRatings finished their recent report before Alaska Airlines had a bit of a problem – the emergency exit door popping open after takeoff.

Thankfully, everyone on board was okay, but that doesn’t really scream ‘safest airline in America,’ does it?

Before this wild incident, Alaska Airlines had a few days of feeling proud about being called the safest U.S. carrier.

This airline is quite popular, especially on the West Coast, and they’ve now added more flights to Los Cabos from Las Vegas.

Alaska also flies nonstop to Los Cabos from a handful of other major West Coast cities, such as San Diego (SAN), Seattle (SEA) and San Francisco (SFO).

How AirlineRatings Decides Safety Rankings

According to their website, this is how AirlineRatings determines the criteria behind their safety rankings for over 300 airlines:
